Kyla Competes in the 2004 Chautauqua Winter Games
On Saturday, February 7 and Sunday, February 8 Kyla competed the the Chautauqua Winter Games. She got a 2nd place out of 6 in Beginner FreeStyle, her team won 2nd place out of 7 teams in Beginner Team Maneuvers (where each girl on the team does a different maneuver, such as spiral, one foot spin, waltz jump, lunge and salchow), a 3rd place out of 8 in Beginner Music Interpretation (where they make up their routine as they go to a piece of music they've only heard once), a 3rd place out of 8 in Beginner Compulsory Moves (where they skate a routine to no music on half the ice and is judged on technical merit), a 2nd place out of 8 in Survivor (points awarded for seconds of spin, seconds holding a spiral, and inches for waltz jump). Kyla had the longest waltz jump in 6 groups at 65 inches, the second longest spin at 60 seconds and a 10 second spiral for a total of 135 points. She also took a 4th place out of 8 in Beginner Showcase (where they can use props and music with words and is judged on originality and entertainment). For her Showcase, Kyla skated to the ESPN Hockey Tonight theme song. Below are pictures from her Showcase competition and her Freestyle award ceremony!
